Literal meaning bid’ah is modernizing or improvement. In special terms, it holds the meaning of doing such acts that displease Allah.
Islam and Bid’ah:
In the dialect of Deen e Islam, there is a constant declare of the Quran and the Sunnah as the foundation of all laws and shariah (prescribed Islamic law), Quran, as the speech of Allah holds all the essential principles that distinguish the good from the bad. Sunnah is the way these morality were executed by the Prophet (PBUH) which provides the wide example that highlights every regulation in deeds as well as beliefs. Bid’ah is a newly invented way (beliefs or deeds) in the religion, in simulation of the Shariah by which nearness to Allah is wanted, but is not proved my any of the authentic proof (Quran or Sunnah)neither in its basics, nor in the mode in which it is carried out.
Perfection of Islam:
Quran states: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion” (5: 3)
Our religion was perfect by Allah (SWT) through Holy Prophet (PBUH) nearly fourteen hundred years ago. It does not need innovation. Our Holy prophet has shown and taught us every single aspect of all beliefs, deeds, obligations and Ibadah. Abu Dhar stated: “Nothing is overlooked by the Prophet (PBUH), until the bird flapping its wings in the sky, but he has taught us about the science.”
There are many verses which are clarify that Islam is ideal, covers all features of life, and there is no need to add and should not be reduced.
The Quran says:”And we sent down unto you the Book (the Qur’an) to explain everything….” (16:89)
Examples of Bid’ah:
Today the ignorant muslims are busy practicing Bid’ah actions rather than the obligatory deed prescribed by our religion. The celebration of the Birthday of the prophet (PBUH). Unaware Muslims and deviant scholars celebrate in the month of Rabi al Awwal, the Messengers’ birthday as Christmas. Our deen is separated from the other religions. Neither the prophet ever celebrated his birthday nor did his blessed and pious companions. During these celebrations that are held in mosques and homes, people even sometimes forget their prayer.
Seeking blessings from places like graves of the dead people is another example. Today ignorant Muslims go to such places and ask the living or dead for barakah (abundance of goods), forgiveness and cure of diseases. Such practices were never done by the companions of the prophet. People forget that no one is greater sustainer then Allah (SWT), no one has the right to forgive any but Allah (SWT), no one is a better healer then Allah (SWT).
When Allah himself says in Quran “.And we have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and we are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.”(50:16) Then what is the need of asking other humans who are like us?
Bid’ah is also practices in terms of worship. Many new ways were formed by people that do not have any solid proof from Quran or Sunnah as Bid’ah is the demand to recite al Fatihah in a certain event, and upon concluding prayer for dead people. Similarly, holding sorrow functions by preparing food for mourners, hiring readers to recite the Qur’an and alleging that all these things fit into the ceremony of sorrow that will help the dead. While none of these Bid’ah has no foundation in Islam.
Bid’ah a threat to the religion:
Bidah is something that creates alternations in our deen. It is one of the main causes of the sectarian groups formed today between Muslims, which means lack of unity among Muslims. When one of the groups creates an innovation and the other refuses to accept it, results in division and disputes of the Islamic population. When people chat innovating in the deen, they start making unfounded statements on behalf of Allah, they start accusing the Prophet (PBUH) and they start competing with Prophet about Prophethood. In addition to that the message of Islam was never completely conveyed, rather other Bid’ah methods were taught. Bid’ah leads to the abandoning out of sunnah practices and the real ways of the ibadah. Real life stands witness that when on earth a bid’ah is chased, a sunnah practice vanishes.
May Allaah to save us all from the misguidance and forgive us. Ameen
