Muslim Academy is a platform that has always talked about all the issues. Whatever the scenario is; Muslim Academy has talked about both sides of the issue, showing both sides of the picture. We have talked a lot about Drone attacks and are these attacks right or wrong? We have been debating a lot finding out what people have to say and what they actually feel about the drones.
At one side we have people saying that it is wrong, as we cannot kill a suspect and it’s a clear-cut violation of human rights. On the contrary people have appreciated drones as they think that a lot of terrorists were and are killed by using this technology. A lot of prominent studies and statistics have shown us that drones are not flawless, but the American Army and the higher authorities regard it as a safe tool against terrorism, as it is automated and finds the target with accuracy.
We have different schools of thought when it comes to drones. People here in Pakistan consider America as their biggest enemy because of the drone Attacks, but the representatives are not clearing their stance. They have always said that they condemn drones and they protest at every level and platform. On the other side, American Army is doing these attacks on regular basis, without any hesitation. It feels as if the “protests are not prominent”.
Another big step in this scenario is the counter terrorism policy and the license to do drone attacks freely. But the question is, whether and why was American Army hesitant in doing drone attacks before?
A lot of collateral damage and wish for revenge surfaces because of these drones. People here feel that is it not the right strategy and that we should look for an alternative.
America is clear in its stance that they will continue to do drone attacks and they will continue to fight against terrorism. Drone technology was a big step in the war on terror and the authorities consider it as a vital tool in this war. But the question is, wheter this technology and strategy are working?
A lot of questions that need answering and people want the Pakistan government to clear its stance. There is always difference in how will people perceive this, but the strange part is that the American people and even a congress member condemned the drone attacks. People in America also feel that drones are wrong.
It’s a long debate that whether drones are right or wrong, but what we need is to discuss this issue properly. At present these attacks are not helping our cause. We have to talk and mutual discussions can play a big role. We must hope for change, and we have to think about all those innocent people and families that are suffering and dying daily because of these noxious drones.
