Is Salman Khan a Muslim?

Salman Khan is regarded as the most popular Indian movie star, over the recent years he has touched new heights of success and is considered the best actor of Bollywood. Salman Khan was born in a Muslim Family, his father Salim Khan may not be a practicing Muslim, but his family uses Islamic traditions in everyday life. Salman Khan’s mother named Salma is a Hindu which didn’t preach her religion to her kids. Salman Khan’s family, including his two brothers, Arbaz Khan and Sohail Khan are also regarded as Muslims who are married to believers of other religions.
Salman khan in his many interviews has regarded himself as a Muslim but at the same time considers humanity above all religions. He believes that loving each other irrespective of cast, class and race is important. We must not divide based on the beliefs, but we must seeing each other’s problems. Salman khan, if regarded as a moderate Muslim, wouldn’t be wrong since he practices Islam and at the same time take part in celebrations of other religions.
Salman khan does what his entire family believes in. His father, screenwriter Salim Khan said to practice Islam, Salman Khan’s grandfather was a Muslim who had migrated from Afghanistan and settled in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, whereas his mother is remarkably a Maratha Hindu. Although, according to Islam’s principles, a Muslim man is allowed to marry outside the Muslim community but only to a woman who is a believer of one of the four books. But Salman khan’s mother is a Hindu which according to Islamic principles is not right. The family denies this act being wrong and probably therefore lay more emphasizes on humanity. Salman Khan’s mother prefers to celebrate all Hindu rituals and the family also celebrates Islamic and Hindu rituals together such as Eid ul Adha, eid ul Fitar, Ramadan, Maha Shivaratri and Ganesh Chaturthi.
Huge controversy was generated as a result of Salman Khan’s family gave away fatwa for celebrating the Hindu ritual of celebrating Ganesh and some of the Muslim clerics regarded the family not Muslim anymore. Khan’s family was upset at this news as later, Salman Khan in the year 2010 acclaimed that he is, “half Muslim and half Hindu”.
In Islam, there is no conceptualization of being a half follower of Islam as Islam stands on the clear ideology of believing in the oneness of God almighty and bowing down before him only. It is definitely unfair to be the judge of anyone’s belief as only Almighty knows who is to be regarded as what. But the picture portrayed by Salman Khan publically regards him as a Muslim who celebrates Islamic rituals such as Eids and Ramadan etc. He does huge charity work in the name of God. Also, Salman Khan uses words like “manshAllah” and “inshAllah” and portrays a good image on humanitarian grounds. We are no one to judge anyone else’s faith.
