After Hazrat Adam, (AS) there came no Prophet for a long, long time. The earth, by that time, had gradually filled up with many children of Hazrat Adam and Bibi Hawa. As time passed, their children started to forget Allah and took up other gods of their own. They moved away from worshipping Allah to worshipping statues made of stones. Not only this, but they had deteriorated morally and ethically as well. They began to steal, lie, cheat and all sorts of other things.
Then as always, Allah sent guidance for these people in the form of The Prophet Noah (AS) so that he may guide these people out of darkness into the path of light. The Prophet Noah (AS) started his mission of bringing people back to worshipping Allah, but his guidance fell on deaf ears. He tried his best, gave it all to make people give up worshipping idols and leave their bad habits, but nobody listened to him. Though he lived up to be 950 years old, but he had little positive influence on people. He was considered as a crazy person, and a liar. Even his own family, his wife and son did not believe what he preached.
Needless to say, The Prophet Noah (AS) became very disheartened of the way people reacted to his message. He was very disappointed with their stone heartedness. he seeks solace in Allah by praying “0 Lord, leave not upon the land anyone from the unbelievers.” (71:26). Being turned down so many times by even the closest people in his life, like his wife and son he would cry and beg Allah saying, “I was vanquished, so give help.” (54:10)
since he prayed with all his heart and soul, Allah accepted The Prophet Noah’s duas and ordered him to build an ark, which was not an easy task at all, but he did it. When others saw him building the ark, they poked fun at him and ridiculed him. They thought that he had lost his senses. The ark was being built for this handful of people who believed The Prophet Noah, they were to embark on the ark and leave the disbelievers behind.
Hazrat Noah (AS) told those who made fun of him that a flood would be soon overcome the land where They are currently residing , and they would have no place to go. Nobody believed him, but Allah kept his word, soon the disbelievers saw that what Hazrat Noah (AS) had told them was actually true. Hazrat Noah (AS) took a pair (one male, one female) of all animals into his ark, along with his followers and left the land.
Soon enough, the skies became dark, followed by lightning and thunder and then it began to rain ferociously. The land was flooded, and all those who were on it, drowned. This was the punishment the disbelievers received for not believing Hazrat Noah’s message, his guidance. Allah says in the Qur’an, “We drowned those who denied our signs. They were (such) blind folk.” (7:64)
