After Omar Ebn Al Khattab was stabbed by Abu Luaaluaa Al Majusi, Muslims kept coming to Omar Ebn Al Khattab’s house to see him and the sound of them crying was very high that all the city can hear it. Women in Al Madina kept saying, “We prefer the death of our children to the death of Omar”. He kept protecting Islam and Muslims and his life represented more power for Islam”. Omar’s wife kept crying and, while Al Sayeda Aisha the wife of the Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him was crying as well as she knew that Omar’s death meant that Islam will weaken and the Muslim nation will be hit by so many conflicts.
Omar stayed alive for three days after he was stabbed, although the Majusi man stabbed him six times, which was enough to kill him instantly, but his body was very strong. Omar said to Abullah Ebn Abbas “if Abu Lualuaa is still alive, do not torture him, and if he is dead, do not torture his body, because I will take my revenge in the judgment day”. Omar kept saying “I’m afraid from Allah, as he will be asking me about my people in the judgment day”, but Abdullah Ebn Abbas said “You ruled according to the holy Quran and the Sunnah”, so Omar told him “would you say this to Allah in the judgment day?”, so Abdullah cried, but Omar hit his shoulder and said “Please tell Allah in the judgment day that I ruled according to the holy Quran”.
Before Omar died he asked “how much are my debts?” so the Sahaba said “you owe some people eighty six thousand Derhams”. These debts came because Omar used to borrow money in the Ramada year to feed poor Muslims. When Omar knew his debts he said “I do not have that money”. Can you imagine the man who ruled the world can not find money to pay off his debts?!!
Omar ordered his son to go to his house and look for money to pay the debts, and asked him to go to Bani Auday (Omar’s tribe) and ask them to pay the debts of Omar. Omar was very keen on paying off all his debts before he die because he wants to give the people back all their rights. Muslims worked together to collect the money and they collected the eighty six thousand Derhams one week after Omar died and they gave it to Othman Ebn Affan to pay the debts off.
I hope both Muslims and the West can learn the importance of giving rights to its people. Omar Ebn Al Khattab’s wasn’t able to pay his debts, but Muslims paid it for him, because they knew what it means to give rights to people and they learned this from the Caliph Omar Ebn Al Khattab. He ruled the world, but all his money was spend on the poor and on the development of the Muslim society, so when he died, Muslims returned the favor in a simple way.
Muslims will never forget their leader, Omar Ebn Al Khattab.
To be continued…
