The battle of Yarmouk was fought near the Yarmouk River. It was a major battle which was fought between the Muslims and the armies of the eastern empire. This battle was fought in 636 and lasted for about six days. The victory came in the favor of the Muslims at the end of the battle and this was considered as the most decisive battle in the Islamic history. This battle ended the rule of the Byzantine in Syria. This battle was a great mark of the Muslim conquest after the death of the Holy prophet PBUH and this battle helped in the advancement of Islam.
The emperor Hercules sent a great army to check the advancement of the Muslims. When the Byzantine army reached the place of Yarmouk the Muslims retreated from the Syria and joined other alliances and attacked the enemy. The battle of Yarmouk was a great victory of the Muslims. This battle was also considered as an example of great military victory by KHALID BIN WALEED. In this battle the Muslims were succeeded in defeating a large number of the army of the enemies. The role of KHALID BIN WALEED was very prominent in the success of this battle and he was considered as the bravest and the greatest commander after this battle.
The major aspect in the success of this battle was the great leadership and military advices of Khalid bin waleed. The amount of the men of the army of the enemies was huge but it was KHALID who made the victory to come to the Muslims because he used the force of his army effectively and in different ways. The battle of Yarmouk started soon after the Morning Prayer. The Muslims rushed to their assigned places after the prayer and were ready to attack the enemies. At the time of sunrise both the armies were prepared in the battle field and were waiting for the battle to start.
A General of the Byzantine army named George or Jarjah in Arabic, came at the front and asked for Khalid to come forward. Khalid rode towards him to start the battle but instead of taking out his sword the General started to ask a few questions to Khalid. He asked Khalid tell me the truth is there really the sword given to your PROPHET by ALLAH and HE gave it to you. Khalid replied yes. Then he asked why are you called the sword of Allah? Then Khalid told him about the title given to him after the battle of mautah. After that Khalid asked him to enter Islam he said if I do not agree then what will happen?
Khalid said then you will have to pay the jazya and I will make you my slave. He asked and what if I accept Islam then Khalid said in our religion everyone is equal. He said then I am ready to embrace Islam. So the battle of Yarmouk started with the conversion of the one of the enemies to Muslim which was also a great victory indeed. This was all due to the intelligence and great conversation made by Khalid. After that George fought from the Side of the Muslims and was martyred for the religion that he accepted.
