When it comes to issues such as world politics or cultural differences, many people in the western world take sides in arguments without first analyzing the evidence that is available. For instance, when you ask most people what they have to say about Muslim culture, you will find that most of them are of the opinion that most Muslims are violent and that they do not respect the human rights of other people. This argument is mainly because most people associate terrorism with the Arab world, something which is far from the truth.
If you need to be more enlightened about such issues, you could decide to learn Muslim culture and find out what it is all about. In many cases, you will be surprised to learn that Islam is a religion that promotes peace instead of war. In fact, most of the teaching in the Quran advocate for treatment of other people as brothers, rather than simply people who are infidels due to the fact that they are not Muslims. You will also realize that many of the leaders in the Muslim world do not encourage acts of terrorism in the name of religion, since it simply breeds more violence.
There are other reasons why more people should be encouraged to learn Muslim culture. As has been said above, majority of Muslims do not support the issue of killings in the name of religion, and most of them even have close friends from different religions and do not force them to change to Islam in order to associate with them. However, when most people are conditioned to believe that Muslims are violent, they tend to have a negative opinion of most Arabs, even if they are not Muslim. This means that you may end up treating one badly, even though he or she holds the same political and social views as you do. If you learn Muslim culture, you are bound to realize this and understand them better.
The fact that majority of people don’t learn Muslim culture or at least try to understand it means that with time, they may cause most Arabs to develop a negative attitude to them as being not very friendly. In such a case, the social type casting would have led to hostility between people of two different cultures. However, when you examine the hostility, you may find that the two parties may hold the same views about everything else in life, including politics and some social norms.
At the end of the day, having to learn Muslim culture is something that can enlighten you immensely. By simply learning how Muslims work and think, you will see that at the end of the day, they are an extremely peace loving people. Most communities usually have extremists who may end up making the rest of the community look bad, even though they do not hold the same views. By simply making an effort to learn the true nature of Islam, the world will be a much better place since we will all find it much easier to get along with each other.
